Real time environment I did for the CGMA 10 week course: Organic World Building in UE5 with Anthony Vaccaro
All assets, textures, materials/shaders are all created by me.
Story:
Ennedi Environment with a bit of a sci-fi twist. The environment is inspired by the Oasis in the Ennedi Desert located in Chad Africa.
I added some elements to tell a unique story about this area, the "Water Stone" is pouring out a seemingly infinite amount of water that creates this lush oasis hidden from the rest of the desert. The water has an unnatural colour for the area showing some of it's magical powers, giving the flora its rich and lush life in this otherwise dry wasteland. The Ennedi Oasis in real life ebbs and flows with life throughout the year and is usually used as a watering hole for camels and locals. Large layered cliffs carved from thousands of years of wind and a little rain erosion create this unique environment.
Details:
- 49 unique assets
- Trees, saplings, bushes and grass clumps were modeled in Speedtree
- Landscape and distant cliff was initially created in Gaea and edited afterwards
- Cliffs, cliff chunks (broken from the cliffs), boulders and rocks were all sculpted in ZBrush, UV'd in blender and textured using RGB masks and tileable textures
- Foliage leaves and grass blades were made using a combination of ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer
- Unreal Engine: utilized nanite for the rocks and ground foliage, ray tracing enabled only for the directional light, lumen and skylight for bounce light. I created a landscape shader from another personal project and altered it for this project, and the single layer water material was from another personal project that I altered for this environment.
- RGB mask materials was used for most of the cliffs and boulders, a simpler version was used for the rocks scattered.
Thanks for viewing my work!
